Throughout 2005/2006, Kieron Lyons conducted a number of web design surveys across Lithuanian websites. The surveys were timed to coincide with our seminar “Internet Marketing for 21st Century Business” as it toured Lithuania. More than one thousand business web sites were analysed from several perspectives including their Google Page Rank, Alexa ratings, inbound and outbound links, age of content, amount of content, spider friendliness, their “opt-in” proposition and their key meta tags. The results of these surveys showed less than 5% of Lithuanian sites are competitive in the search engines. Many of those who fare poorest of all are medium and large companies with “flashy” websites. A tiny fraction of companies have a Google page rank of 6 or higher.

The vast majority of websites have less than ten visitors per day. Content is often out-of-date and tired looking.

All in all, major change is on the horizon as web site optimisation awareness increases.
